Antique vs. Vintage

When you hear the words Antique and Vintage, what do you think?

For me the word Antique brings to mind old furniture and items from the centuries before the 20th century, but that probably has a lot to do with being born in the 20th century myself. As for the word Vintage, I think of the stuff during the 20th century that was before the 80s. But I think everyone might have a slightly different version based on when they were born.

Tell me your take on whether this formal sofa is antique or vintage.

However, here is the general rule to remember: Something antique is also vintage, but something vintage isn’t necessarily antiqueVintage refers to something that is from an earlier generation. Antique refers to something that is over 100 years old.

I would love to hear other’s view of what time periods they think of when they hear the words antique and vintage.
